Have you ever spent any time talking with someone who is real successful
in their business, or in
their marriage or in any other area of life, that you would you would like to emulate? If you have,
chances are, you noticed this successful person was POSSIBILITY CONSCIOUS. What I
mean by that is they are the type of person who sees all the possibilities of a situation. And, if they
truly are successful, it is the Positive possibilities they most easily see!
On the other hand, talk to someone who has never been successful in
anything, and they tend to
focus on all the reasons why a certain course of action will fail. It's too hard, or you don't have the
time, or your the wrong race, or your too young etc. They can usually give you a two hour lesson
on why you just can not do what it is you are attempting.
In my business, I see more of the later type which I call the FAILURE
CONSCIOUS. I do my
best to stay away from these folks if I can help it. They will take up too much of your time. They will
be the first to complain about change, the last to help out in a crunch, the first to want their pay, and
always, they will demand MORE ATTENTION!
I remember a few years back when my good friend Randy and I were building
our group in
PRE PAID LEGAL (an excellent company by the way, just now starting to get noticed by
the big hitters). Randy brought in one young man who, from listening to him talk about himself,
seemed like he would out sell everybody. Turns out, he had a few problems with the company.
He didn't like this, he complained about that. "Well if they don't change this they will fall flat on
their face" he declared! Needless to say, Randy and I spent a lot of time trying to train this young
man. Randy felt, with just a little more help, the boy would become a man, stand on his own two
feet and really take off with PPL.
We then came to the conclusion (Randy mostly) that if we just
gave a few sales to him, he would
really get excited when he started getting checks. We even sponsored a few people and placed
them under the boy. He must have received a few hundred dollars from the sales we gave him.
PPL paid twice each week, so he didn't even have to wait long to get our gift commissions. Boy,
now we are going to have something!!! A few hundred dollars in his pocket, and he hadn't yet
done anything. We would have a warrior on our hands!
About two days latter, I was talking to a mutual friend, who told me
the boy had spoken to her
about the PPL opportunity. "He said that PPL is no good and you just can't make any money
with it" she proclaimed. I told her "You can make a lot of money if you want to work!". I was
earning $500 - $900 per week (a lot of money back then), so the statement really made me
furious. To make an even longer story shorter, we didn't spend much more time with the boy or
anyone for that matter, unless they proved themselves to be POSSIBILITY CONSCIOUS.
I was talking with a woman the other day who told me, "yeah, but who
would come up with
that much for a home business?" I told her that we have more business now than we can handle.
So someone must feel like it is not too much to invest in a business. For most folks, a few hundred
dollars invested in a home business is chump change. If that is not true of the people you have been
talking to, then you need to talk to some different people! I love home business, and especially
Network Marketing. I have seen it change people's lives. Not just financially, but in other ways
too! What other business can you get into for a few hundred dollars and have the opportunity to
make THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS per WEEK? None! For the small guy, there are no other
opportunities like that!
Some people get stuck in the rut of a 9 to 5 job, making $200 - $300
per week, and they begin
to limit themselves mentally. If they can not afford it, they think no one else can either. Since they
only make a couple hundred a week, they don't believe you can make even one grande a week,
let alone THOUSANDS PER WEEK! They don't believe it. It can't be true! They just can not
picture themselves making that kind of money. If you fall into this category - GET OUT! Talk to
someone who has done it. Not to all those doubting Thomases who have never done anything.
If you want to be successful in your marriage, don't go talk to someone
who has had 5 failed
marriages! Talk to the couple that have been married for 50 years. Ask what their secret is.
The world is full of John boys who will tell you all about why your marriage won't last, or why
your business will fail, or why the boss is a loser, or why groceries are too high, or how they
don't know how to pay their bills!!!!!!
I was watching a news report tonight on TV about the economy. They were
saying that jobs were
down a little, but the economy is way up and strong. New houses are being built. And they can not
figure out why! Let me tell you why. It is because of us home business entrepreneurs. The same
ones they have been laughing at for years! We are quietly building empires, and many of us
from our homes. We don't show up in the work statistics, cause we have created our own jobs.
Maybe even hired folks to work for us. Have you joined us yet? You can, if you don't limit
I bought my first new car when I was 21 years old. It was a
bright red convertible. Along with the joy of owning my
dream car came the responsibility of paying for it. I
remember how the feeling of "buyer's remorse" plagued me for
days after I drove the car off the dealer's lot. ("Buyer's
remorse" is what we feel after making an impulsive decision
-- until we can justify our decision with logical reasons.)
About a week later I got a personal letter from Ray, the
salesman who sold the car to me. He thanked me for the
business and congratulated me for making such a wise
decision. He then went on to list all the benefits I'd enjoy
as a result of my wise decision. Ray's letter didn't change
the car payments I faced for the next 3 years. However, it
did change the way I felt about them. I lost my buyer's
remorse almost immediately. Ray's letter also changed the
way I felt about him. I bought 3 more cars from Ray during
the next 10 years.
I used versions of Ray's "thank you" letter throughout my
business career. They helped preserve a considerable amount
of business. They also helped solidify many valuable
BENEFITS OF THE UNEXPECTED "THANK YOU"
How would you react if you received a personal "thank you"
from a company or person a few days after you spent money
with them? You'd feel good and probably want to do more
business with them sooner rather than later. Why not give
that same feeling to the most important people you know --
Here are some benefits you gain when you send a personal
"thank you" to a customer or client who just gave you
** You reduce or lower any buyer's remorse your customer or
client feels after their purchase.
** You develop a closer relationship with your customer.
** You gain free word-of-mouth advertising when your
customer tells everybody about your unexpected "thank
you" letter and how good they feel about doing business
** You have an opportunity to resell more (or other)
products or services. You can even promote this by
including a special price or discount offer in your
"thank you" letter.
** You enhance your image as a consumer-oriented business.
Your unexpected "thank you" doesn't have to be lengthy. You
don't have to write it individually for each customer or
client. You can use the same text for everybody with just a
few minor changes -- like inserting the customer's name. You
don't even have to take the time to type envelopes and mail
letters. You can send your "thank you" by fax or email. Just
be sure to personalize it as much as possible.
If you've ordered books on the internet from Amazon.com, you
received a good example of an unexpected "thank you" letter
by email. Their "thank you" email message even includes the
titles of other books you can order on the same subject.
I spoke with an MLM distributor several weeks ago who sends
what she called a "congratulatory letter" to all her new
distributors 2 days after they sign up. In it she repeats
the specific goals stated by the new distributor before
signing up and includes a brief description of how he or she
will now be able to achieve them.
Most buying decisions are made on impulse. Only after buying
do we look for logical reasons to justify our decision. You
can help your customers with this by including all the
benefits they'll gain from your product or service in an
unexpected "thank you" message. These benefits are what
initially compelled them to buy. Repeating these benefits
reassures them of the wisdom of their decision. It can even
reduce or eliminate cancellations or refunds.
