A couple of weeks ago, we unenthusiastically reported on the new AOL
MLM opportunity. Today
we have been reading reports that the Giant may have already thrown in the towel. Any of you who
know me can attest to the fact that I have never been a fan of the ISP Marketing King!!!! I must
have been approached by 50 people in a few days about getting on the AOL bandwagon. This
recent report just solidifies our first impression of the opportunity.
HERE IS ONE OF THE RELATED STORIES ON AOL:

When Ron Cordas paid $495 to become a recruiter
for AOL Select, a "multilevel marketing" program
similar to sales schemes made famous by Amway,
he felt the fee was paltry compared to the potentially
high returns of sitting at the top of a sales structure
for a respectable brand.
But just a month after applying for the program and
paying the fee to become a "senior training manager,"
Cordas and others who signed on to AOL Select were
abruptly notified that the service has been put on hold.
Leaving them--as well as their recruited sales
representatives—scratching their heads and fearing
the end of a potentially lucrative sales scheme.
"I would like an answer right now," said Cordas. "
The company is not accepting phone calls, and no one
is commenting. All we know is that AOL is ceasing
involvement in this joint venture."
AOL spokeswoman Tricia Primrose would not
comment on why the program was apparently
canceled because it is against AOL policy to
"get into the specific details of its marketing programs."
But Primrose said that Monument Communications,
a multilevel marketing company that is AOL's partner
in the venture, would refund these members.
"Monument has told us that anyone who applied to
be a part of this program has been refunded," she said.
Monument executives could not be reached for comment.
Rolled out in mid-January, AOL Select allows members
to generate commissions whenever they, or their
recruited sales representatives, sell AOL subscriptions.
The more representatives one signs on, the more
commission one reaps.
AOL Select was designed to target consumers who
have "resisted getting online due to fear or lack of
information" by training sales representatives to
"demonstrate the service directly to friends and
family who otherwise might not consider getting
online," according to a January 14 press release
from Monument announcing the service.
"A person-to-person demonstration of this product
will plow through the most common barriers and
make it even more clear to people why AOL is the
leader," Richard Warren, president and cofounder
of Monument Communications, said in the release.
Since the service was recently pulled, however,
the AOL Select Web site has changed its name
to "Online Select."
Members were informed of the change when they
received a February 5 email signed by Monument
cofounders Richard Warren and Stephen Kann,
according to Janet Wilson, a high-level "presidential
founder" candidate for the program and president
of her own marketing firm, Leap. Wilson said that
no further information was presented, and that all
checks and money orders would be returned.
Marketers who signed on remain bitter that no
explanation as to the program's fate has been
offered by either company.
"The whole reason why I got involved with them
was because they were AOL," Cordas said. "When
you get a credible company involved, it takes the
pressure off because nine out of ten network
marketing companies go out of business in a year."
"Just the name of AOL attracted me," added
Glen VanWormer, a network marketer from upstate
New York. "I thought this was for real because they
used their logo. I went out quickly, talked to people
I did business with, and within a week I had around
200 people who signed up."
But without an explanation and faced with the
possibility of backlash among his recruits, VanWormer
is infuriated. "I feel betrayed that this happened,"
he said. "My reputation is on the line and there is

I have always liked penny stocks. It seems to me that your potential is much greater than with the
big Blue Boys (by the way - Both of the penny stocks we covered in OIO a couple of weeks ago

true in opportunities as well. If you are working a plan of some huge company that has been
around for years, your success will be much harder to come by. On the other hand, we are not
saying to go out and bet the farm on some new company. A happy middle ground would be nice.
Not too big, or too old! Not too new, or small. But, somewhere in the middle. That brings us to
the next opportunity that we would like to cover:
The MELLINGER COMPANY has been around for generations.
Their full page ads appear
in most of the trade publications. The CEO or Front Man position has been passed down from
father to son, to grandson. One of my first attempts at mail order as a young entrepreneur was
via a Mellinger dealership.
The company offers to set you up in a World Trade/Mail Order business.
"Deal Direct," "Buy
Below Wholesale" are Millinger catch phrases. "Free Sample Import," the ad rings out. At first
glance, the offer seems workable -- Ah yes, work from home success!
After trying to earn money on the Mellinger products, I found myself
with an inventory of goods
nobody wanted, and a stack of How-To Mellinger manuals that taught very little. The best prices
available were on ponchos, sombreros, and the like. Here in Oklahoma, those items just weren't
in extremely high demand. When you add the fact that you have an annual fee to pay to keep
your dealership, it is easy to see why the firm is constantly in search of new recruits. Let's face it,
if their objective was to move products, they should have had the best salesmen on the planet
by now (not to mention, that they could have put a poncho on every man, woman, and child in america too. Assuming prices and quality were half as good as claimed in the ads.)
Should you want to become a member of the Mellinger plan, it will cost
you over $200. This
One Time fee makes you wonder if they want to move products, or sell memberships. In our
opinion, this is a Lost World Opportunity whose time has come and gone. Mellinger, no
doubt is trying to cash in now on the net. Beware!

AMS's main product continues to be the high energy weight loss

twists. To earn commissions you only have to do $50 of volume (PV). There are added
incentives for those who maintain at least $100 PV. The distributor kit includes a 120-count
bottle of AM-300, which makes the investment in a distributorship well worth it! It would cost
more than thedealer kit, just to purchase the 120-count bottle outright (which is a nice incentive
when you are signing up new distributors).
If you are looking to energize your efforts in 99, AMS just might be
the opportunity for you. If
you invest in stocks, AMSO is worth a look!
