5) In 1997 nearly 1/3 of all money spent on-line, went toward computers
& computer related

Folks we are standing in the middle of a stream of time like no other
in history. It amazes me that our little company now has customers in many
countries around the world (including Japan, Canada,
Netherlands, Great Briton, Philippines, Algeria and Taiwan), all because of our on-line efforts.
At first, the Internet was just something we did on the side. Now, the Net has quickly become our
main focus and profit center! I can foresee a time when it will be beneficial to have our own server.
Non of this would have been possible without E-commerce.
In a few years (it will be here before you know it), young ones will
be asking us questions about the
time when the Internet was a new Frontier. "How did you start your E-business grandpa? What was
it like then?" It baffles the mind how much this thing will change in the next few years. No doubt, the
government will input strict guidelines and RED TAPE that they are known for (let's hope
that is a ways off). Big business will try to monopolize cyberspace, but will be unable to (let's face it
home business is the fastest growing segment of the WORLDWIDE economy). Many average Joe's
will come up with great on-line business ideas and become millionaires (not overnight but faster than
with conventional businesses). How do you fit in?
We will be bringing you many exciting ideas for your on-line business

Finding your competitors
First, think of all the keywords and phrases related
to your products or services that people would use to
search within the search engines. Try using
<http://www.dogpile.com>. This is a multiple search
engine that searches using some of the top search engines.
(Also, try individual search engines for varying results.)
This will give you many results and you should be able
to find someone who is marketing the same type or
similar product that you wish to market.
Link Popularity & Link Exchange
Do you want to know which websites your competitors
are marketing on or how many other sites link to their
site? Some search engines rank you on link popularity
the number of sites that link to your site.
To do this you will use <http://www.altavista.digital.com>
search engine. Your search string should look like this:
link:http://www.mycompetitor.com AND NOT http://www.mycompetitor.com
This will show you all the sites that have links to
their site. You can use this information to get an
idea of what other types of websites that might like
to link to your site, or you can try to get links on
those same sites as well. There are many ways to get
reciprocal links to your site: You could have a
contest-if people link to your site, they would get
a link in return or a prize from a monthly drawing.
You could offer a free service in return, they must
link to your site for using your services. Don't be
hesitant on writing an e-mail to people to see if
they would like to exchange links. Forewarn, be
creative in your approach to these people, and try
to explain that you have a unique product and or
audience who could benefit from their products or services.
